What is lymphatic drainage massage?
Manual lymphatic drainage uses light, directed movements to encourage lymph fluid movement. It differs from massage aimed at working more deeply into muscle. In healthcare, it may be part of treatment for lymphedema; a spa menu entry does not establish that same clinical service.
Lymphatic drainage pressure versus muscle massage
If you usually ask for firm pressure, say so before choosing this add-on. Lymphatic drainage is not simply a stronger version of massage. If your main concern is familiar muscle tension, the comparison guide below can help you frame a more useful booking question.
Wellness lymphatic massage and clinical lymphatic care
Be specific if a clinician has recommended manual lymphatic drainage. Share the name of the recommended treatment and ask about the provider qualifications you need. The word “lymphatic” on two different menus is not enough to establish that the appointments are interchangeable.
Lymphatic drainage massage prices in San Francisco
Healing Shiatsu lists two lymphatic drainage add-on options: Part $20 and Whole $50. The base massage is additional. The menu does not define the coverage or extra time for these options, so ask what each means when arranging your visit.
Scroll across the table to compare both options.
| Menu option | Listed add-on price | Confirm before booking |
|---|---|---|
| Lymphatic Drainage — Part | $20 plus the base massage | Which area is included and how it fits into your session |
| Lymphatic Drainage — Whole | $50 plus the base massage | Coverage, positioning and total appointment length |
| Base massage | Charged separately | Compatible service, duration and complete visit price |
Calculating the total for a lymphatic drainage add-on
For example, if the studio confirms that the add-on can accompany an $85, 60-minute Shiatsu session, the menu arithmetic is $105 with Part or $135 with Whole, before other extras and gratuity. This is a budgeting example; confirm the actual combination and whether the appointment needs more time.
Preparing for your first lymphatic drainage appointment
A useful first sentence is simply why you are calling: “I am interested in a gentle add-on,” or “My clinician recommended a particular treatment.” Those are different requests, and the studio needs to know which one you mean.
- Confirm Part or Whole, the base service and the total price.
- Ask about the therapist’s relevant lymphatic training and scope.
- Check the appointment length and recommended arrival time.
- Agree on how to request an adjustment or stop the session.
Questions about lymphatic massage areas and positioning
Ask which areas the add-on covers, how you will be positioned and what clothing or draping is involved. Mention areas you do not want touched and any position that is uncomfortable. You should understand what you are agreeing to before the session begins.
What to bring to the booking conversation
Have your preferred date, base service and questions about the add-on ready. If you have medical instructions, discuss them with your care team and the prospective provider. Do not send sensitive health details through a public review or comment.
When swelling needs medical advice before massage
New or unexplained swelling needs medical assessment. Blood clots, infection, fever and some heart or kidney conditions can make lymphatic massage inappropriate. Tell your healthcare professional about your symptoms rather than trying to select a technique from a menu.
If you are recovering from surgery or have diagnosed lymphedema, ask your treating clinician which care and provider qualifications are appropriate. Our listed add-on is not confirmation of a post-operative program. The guide below helps you prepare that conversation.
Discuss lymphatic drainage at our Balboa Street studio
Call Healing Shiatsu at (415) 379-9739 with questions about the menu and appointment availability. We are at 3735 Balboa St, San Francisco, CA 94121, in the Outer Richmond. Regular hours are 9:30 AM–7:30 PM, Monday through Sunday.
If you are comparing providers, ask each one the same questions about training, scope, price and appointment length. A lower add-on price cannot be compared directly with the price of a complete clinical treatment appointment.
